Depending on what mill you are using, it is best to run the engine at a speed that will yield the correct speed at the mill. Best to look up the factory speeds if possible to determine it. Also when not cracking corn, I open the burr plates so the noise disapears. (remember one plate is fixed and one floats with the adjuster on most mills).

H Farmalls, buhr mills, buzz saws, flat belts and such are from a day in age when things were simpler. Operating them is not rocket science. Common sense goes a long way in getting them set up and running. Common sense and a little caution will keep you from getting hurt. Once you get your buhr mill set up, take and post some pictures.

Most common is the model 80 and 80X with the next being the slightly different "Shuck Mill" series like the 110, 210, and 220 series grinders. I got mine for the princely sum of $50 at the Waukee Iowa swap meet but you do see some go around the $100 range. Letz was one of the most common brands along with IHC and you find them everywhere.

I have a question about a Letz burr mill. Someone just dropped one off at the local scrap yard and I am wondering if its worth bringing home. Its a Model 220 Type A and looks to be fairly complete.
